A Broader Look at Persistent and Complex Health Concerns
Patients often come to Mooi after they have completed a standard medical workup, tried conventional approaches, or received treatment for the original problem, yet pain, sensitivity, limited function, or other symptoms continue.
Some of the concerns that bring patients to us include chronic pain, chronic nerve pain, interstitial cystitis, endometriosis, and acute or chronic sports injuries. These conditions can be complex, and the same diagnosis does not necessarily mean the same underlying factors are affecting every patient.
At Mooi Medical Spa & Laser Center, regenerative and biologic medicine begins with a physician consultation. Dr. Tracey Botha evaluates your history, symptoms, previous treatments, available imaging, overall health, and goals before recommending any supportive care.
The goal is not to match a diagnosis to a predetermined procedure. It is to understand the individual patient, identify factors that may be contributing to ongoing symptoms or recovery, and determine whether additional supportive options may be appropriate.
Health Concerns We Evaluate
Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is pain that persists or recurs over time. In some patients, the experience of pain becomes more complex than the original injury or structural finding alone.
Changes in the way the nervous system processes pain, persistent inflammation, previous injury, sleep, metabolic health, hormonal factors, physical conditioning, and other influences may all play a role in how pain is experienced.
At Mooi, the first step is understanding what has already been evaluated, what has been tried, and what may warrant further investigation.
Chronic Nerve Pain
Nerve-related symptoms may feel burning, electrical, shooting, tingling, hypersensitive, or numb. They can be persistent or intermittent and may not always correspond neatly with findings on routine imaging.
There are many potential contributors to nerve symptoms, including mechanical compression or irritation, metabolic factors, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal or endocrine conditions, and changes within the peripheral or central nervous system.
Because similar symptoms can arise for different reasons, Dr. Botha begins with a detailed history and medical evaluation rather than assuming that every patient with nerve pain needs the same type of care.
Interstitial Cystitis / Bladder Pain Syndrome
Interstitial cystitis, also called bladder pain syndrome, is a chronic condition associated with bladder or pelvic discomfort and symptoms such as urinary urgency and frequency.
Symptoms and contributing factors can vary considerably from one person to another. For some patients, pelvic floor dysfunction, chronic pain patterns, inflammation, or other overlapping health concerns may also be present.
Patients who have already undergone evaluation for urinary symptoms may come to Mooi to discuss their broader health history and whether additional supportive care should be considered alongside their existing medical care.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition in which endometrial-like tissue is present outside the uterus. It can be associated with pelvic pain, painful periods, pain with intercourse, fertility concerns, and other symptoms.
Appropriate gynecologic evaluation and treatment remain important. Depending on the individual, conventional care may include medication, hormonal management, surgery, or a combination of approaches.
For some patients, however, pain or pelvic symptoms may continue even after the underlying disease has been evaluated or treated. With Dr. Botha’s background in obstetrics and gynecology, the consultation can also consider the broader factors that may affect ongoing pelvic health, pain, recovery, and quality of life.
Regenerative and supportive care at Mooi is designed to complement appropriate gynecologic care, not replace it.
Acute & Chronic Sports Injuries
Muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other tissues do not all recover at the same rate. An athlete may also regain structural healing before fully regaining strength, mobility, tolerance to activity, or confidence in movement.
Some patients seek consultation soon after an injury. Others come in after months of persistent discomfort or after conventional rehabilitation has taken them only part of the way back to their previous level of activity.
At Mooi, the focus is on the whole recovery picture, including the original injury, previous treatment, current function, health history, and the patient’s goals for returning to activity.
How We Work
Consultation Comes First
Regenerative and biologic medicine at Mooi is not a one-size-fits-all protocol. Your consultation may include a detailed review of:
Mooi may offer platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, as one of the options considered following evaluation. PRP is prepared using a sample of the patient’s own blood. The blood is processed to separate a platelet-rich portion, which is then used during the clinician-directed procedure.
- Your current symptoms and health concerns
- Medical and surgical history
- Previous diagnoses and treatments
- Medications and supplements
- Available laboratory results
- X-rays, MRI, ultrasound, or other relevant imaging
- Nutrition and metabolic health
- Hormonal health
- Activity level and recovery
- Your individual goals
When appropriate, Dr. Botha may recommend additional testing to better understand factors that could be relevant to your overall health and recovery.
Depending on the individual, this may include genomic testing, cellular and biomarker testing, metabolic or nutritional markers, micronutrient assessment, hormone testing, or other advanced laboratory evaluation.
The purpose of this process is to gather information before developing a plan, rather than selecting a therapy based only on the name of a diagnosis.
Your Care Plan Is Built Around You
After evaluation, Dr. Botha discusses the findings with you and determines whether supportive care at Mooi may be appropriate.
Your plan may involve one service, several complementary approaches, additional testing, optimization of underlying health factors, referral to another specialist, or continued care with your existing physician.
Not every patient is a candidate for every service.
Dr. Botha is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, with more than 25 years of clinical experience and extensive experience in cellular, regenerative, and longevity-focused medicine.
Care at Mooi is designed to work alongside your other physicians and specialists.
