What is PRP Hair & Scalp Therapy?
PRP Hair & Scalp Therapy is an in-office procedure that may be considered for selected hair and scalp concerns. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, which is prepared from a small sample of the patient’s own blood.
During the procedure, the blood sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate a platelet-rich portion of the plasma. The prepared PRP is then administered to clinician-selected areas of the scalp according to an individualized treatment plan. Dr. Botha determines whether PRP is appropriate based on your medical history, scalp evaluation, pattern of hair changes, previous treatments and personal goals.

Frequently asked questions
What should I expect during treatment?
Your appointment begins with a small blood draw. The sample is processed to prepare the platelet-rich plasma, which is then administered to clinician-selected areas of the scalp.
Temporary sensitivity, redness, tenderness or mild swelling may occur. Mooi will provide individualized hair-care, activity and follow-up instructions after your appointment.
How many treatments are needed?
There is no standard number of PRP treatments appropriate for every patient. Recommendations depend on your pattern of hair changes, scalp condition, treatment area, response to the initial procedure and individualized care plan.
During follow-up, Dr. Botha may evaluate your scalp and determine whether another procedure, continued monitoring, additional evaluation or a different option should be considered.
Can PRP be combined with laser or plasma therapy?
Laser or plasma-based scalp services may be discussed as separate options within an individualized treatment plan. Each service has its own clinical considerations and treatment-planning requirements.
Dr. Botha will determine whether services should be considered individually, scheduled separately or included within a broader care plan.
Is PRP Hair & Scalp Therapy right for me?
PRP may be considered for selected patients experiencing gradual hair thinning, increased shedding or changes in hair density. Clinical appropriateness depends on your medical history, pattern of hair changes, scalp condition, current medications, previous treatments and other relevant factors.
A consultation with Dr. Botha will help determine whether PRP, another service, additional evaluation or coordinated care may be appropriate.
