Bioidentical HRT Pellets (Women & Men)

Bioidentical HRT Pellets for Women and Men

Physician-Led Hormone Evaluation and Treatment Planning

Mooi offers individualized hormone consultations led by Dr. Tracey Botha, a board-certified OB-GYN. During your consultation, Dr. Botha will review your medical history, current medications, previous hormone therapy, current concerns, relevant risk factors, and personal wellness goals.
Laboratory testing may be reviewed or ordered when clinically appropriate. This information is considered together with your medical history and clinical evaluation to determine whether hormone therapy should be considered. Hormone pellets are one of several prescription options that may be discussed. They are not appropriate for every patient, and no hormone treatment is recommended before appropriate evaluation and screening.

What Are Hormone Pellets?

Hormone pellets are small implants placed beneath the skin during an in-office procedure. They are formulated to release prescribed hormone medication gradually over time.
The term “bioidentical” is commonly used to describe hormones with the same chemical structure as hormones produced by the human body. Bioidentical hormones may be available through FDA-approved products or compounded medications, depending on the formulation and route of administration.
If pellet therapy is being considered, Dr. Botha will discuss the specific medication, whether it is FDA-approved or compounded, available alternatives, potential risks, limitations, and required follow-up.

How Is Clinical Appropriateness Determined?

Dr. Botha may consider factors such as:

Medical and surgical history

Current medications and supplements

Previous hormone use

Relevant laboratory findings

Personal and family health history

Potential contraindications and risk factors

Individual preferences and treatment goals

Ability to complete appropriate follow-up care

Laboratory results are only one component of the evaluation and do not independently determine whether pellet therapy is appropriate.

Your appointment begins with an in-depth review of your health history, current concerns, previous treatment experiences, medications, and goals.
Dr. Botha will discuss available hormone therapy options, which may include FDA-approved and compounded formulations in different delivery forms. The purpose of this discussion is to help you understand the available options and participate in an informed clinical decision.

When pellet therapy is clinically appropriate and selected, the insertion procedure, applicable risks, aftercare requirements, and follow-up schedule will be explained before treatment.

When hormone therapy is recommended, Dr. Botha will develop an individualized treatment plan based on her evaluation and clinical judgment.

Your plan may include:

  • A prescription option selected following evaluation
  • Patient education and informed consent
  • Clinician-directed medication instructions
  • Appropriate laboratory monitoring
  • Follow-up appointments
  • Documentation of your response and any concerns
  • Changes or discontinuation when medically appropriate

Pellet selection and follow-up are determined individually rather than through a standard public protocol.

Follow-up care is an important part of clinician-directed hormone therapy.

During follow-up appointments, Dr. Botha may review:

  • Your response to the prescribed therapy
  • Questions or concerns
  • Potential side effects
  • The insertion site, when applicable
  • Relevant laboratory findings
  • Whether continuation or modification should be considered

The timing of laboratory testing, follow-up visits, and any future pellet procedures is determined individually.

Important Information About Compounded Hormone Pellets

Some hormone pellet products may be prepared by a compounding pharmacy according to a patient-specific prescription.
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not verify the safety, effectiveness, or quality of compounded medications before they are marketed.
FDA-approved hormone therapy alternatives may be available. Dr. Botha will discuss relevant alternatives and determine whether a compounded option should be considered based on the patient’s medical needs and available treatment options.
Because an inserted pellet cannot be adjusted or easily discontinued in the same manner as some other hormone formulations, the risks, limitations, and alternative delivery methods should be discussed carefully before treatment.

Frequently asked questions

No. Clinical appropriateness depends on your medical history, current medications, relevant laboratory findings, risk factors, previous treatment, and Dr. Botha’s clinical evaluation.
There is no single schedule appropriate for every patient. Timing depends on the medication prescribed, clinical response, laboratory findings, and Dr. Botha’s judgment. Your individual follow-up schedule will be explained as part of your treatment plan.
The answer depends on the specific product prescribed. Some hormone pellet products may be compounded, while certain FDA-approved hormone pellet products also exist. When a compounded medication is prescribed, the compounded medication itself is not FDA-approved. Dr. Botha will explain the status of the specific medication and discuss available alternatives where relevant.

You will receive written aftercare instructions based on your individual procedure. These instructions will explain activity considerations, insertion-site care, and when to contact Mooi with a question or concern.

Unlike some hormone delivery methods, an inserted pellet cannot be readily adjusted after placement. This limitation, along with available alternatives, will be discussed before treatment.
