Scar Treatment

Scar treatment Gainesville FL

Physician-led evaluation for acne scars, surgical scars and other visible scars

Scars may develop following acne, surgery, injury, burns or other changes to the skin. Their appearance varies depending on the cause, age, depth, color, location and individual healing response.

At Mooi, scar treatment begins with an individualized consultation with your provider. She will evaluate the scar, surrounding skin, medical history, previous procedures and aesthetic goals before determining whether an aesthetic procedure may be appropriate. Different types of scars require different clinical considerations. Not every scar is appropriate for cosmetic treatment, and no procedure can guarantee that a scar will be completely removed.

What is scar treatment?

Scar treatment refers to aesthetic procedures considered for the visible color, texture, depth or contour of a scar. The appropriate approach depends on the characteristics of the scar and the patient’s individual skin.

Depending on your evaluation, your provider may discuss microneedling, Potenza® RF microneedling, laser resurfacing, Pico laser treatment, injectable filler or another aesthetic option. One procedure may be considered, or multiple services may be discussed as part of a broader treatment plan. Exosomes are not included in Mooi’s publicly advertised scar treatment options.

Scar treatment options

Traditional Microneedling

Microneedling uses small needles to create controlled treatment points in the skin. The needle depth and procedure plan are selected according to the scar, treatment area and individual skin evaluation. Traditional microneedling may be discussed for selected scars, but it is not appropriate for every scar type or skin condition.

Potenza® RF Microneedling

Potenza combines microneedles with radiofrequency energy delivered at clinician-selected depths and settings. It offers monopolar and bipolar operating modes that allow the procedure to be adjusted according to the area being evaluated. Potenza is FDA-cleared for dermatologic and general surgical procedures involving electrocoagulation and hemostasis. Its cosmetic use for scar-related concerns is outside that specific cleared indication and is considered off-label.

CO₂ Laser Resurfacing

CO₂ laser resurfacing applies controlled laser energy to selected areas of the skin. The treatment depth, intensity and procedure plan depend on the exact device, scar characteristics, treatment area and patient evaluation.

The FDA status and cleared indications of a CO₂ laser depend on the exact manufacturer, model and handpiece. Your provider will explain the regulatory status, risks, limitations and aftercare associated with the specific device being considered.

Pico Laser Treatment

Pico laser treatment uses short pulses of laser energy delivered through a selected handpiece. It may be discussed for certain concerns involving scar discoloration or surrounding pigmentation, depending on the exact device and the patient’s skin. The FDA-cleared indications vary by Pico laser system and handpiece. The exact device used at Mooi must be verified before adding a specific FDA-clearance statement to this page.

Before Treatment

Your appointment begins with an evaluation of the scar and surrounding skin. Your provider will review the proposed procedure, potential risks, limitations, available alternatives and aftercare requirements.

The skin will be cleansed, and topical numbing may be used when appropriate. Preparation varies according to the technology, treatment area and individualized procedure plan.

During Treatment

The procedure will vary based on the option selected. Microneedling and RF microneedling use clinician-selected needle depths, while laser procedures use device settings selected for the treatment area and skin characteristics. The length of the appointment depends on the scar, size of the treatment area and procedure performed.

After Treatment

Temporary redness, warmth, swelling, tenderness, sensitivity, pinpoint bleeding, peeling or visible treatment markings may occur. Recovery varies according to the procedure, device settings, treatment area and individual response. Mooi will provide individualized skincare, activity and sun-exposure instructions following treatment. Contact Mooi if you experience an unexpected reaction or have concerns during recovery.

Follow-Up and Treatment Planning

There is no standard number of scar treatment appointments appropriate for every patient. Recommendations depend on the type and location of the scar, treatment selected, procedure settings, skin characteristics, response to the initial procedure and individual aesthetic goals.

During follow-up, your provider may evaluate the treated area, address questions or concerns and determine whether another procedure, continued monitoring or a different aesthetic option should be considered.

The number of sessions, degree of visible change and duration of any aesthetic result vary. Scar treatment cannot guarantee complete removal or a particular outcome.

Cost of the treatment

Starting at $3,300 per session.
