BioGel Natural Bio-Filler

BioGel and PRP:PRFM

A Personalized, Autologous Filler Option

BioGel and PRP:PRFM
BioGel, sometimes described as a natural bio-filler or autologous plasma gel, is an injectable material prepared from a small sample of the patient’s own blood.
At Mooi Medical Spa & Laser Center, BioGel procedures are performed following an individualized facial assessment with Dr. Tracey Botha. She reviews your medical history, previous injectable treatments, facial anatomy, areas of concern and aesthetic goals before determining whether BioGel or another injectable option may be appropriate.
Because BioGel is prepared for each individual patient, the consultation, preparation process, injection areas and follow-up plan are personalized. BioGel at Mooi does not include exosomes.

What Is BioGel Natural Bio-Filler?

BioGel is prepared by collecting and processing a small sample of your blood. A selected blood component is then prepared into a gel-like consistency for use during an aesthetic injection procedure.
The exact preparation method and materials used will be explained during your consultation. BioGel is different from commercially manufactured hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and other FDA-approved injectable products. The term “natural bio-filler” refers to the fact that the injectable material is derived from the patient’s blood. However, “natural” does not mean that a procedure is free from risks or appropriate for every patient. BioGel is not an FDA-approved dermal filler. Your provider will explain its regulatory status, limitations, potential risks and available FDA-approved alternatives before treatment.

Areas That May Be Considered for BioGel

Following an individualized facial assessment, your provider may discuss BioGel for selected areas involving facial volume, contour or fine lines. Areas that may be evaluated include:
Non-surgical eyelid tightening
Under-eye hollows and shadows
Fine lines around the eyes
Temple volume loss
Acne and acne scarring
Cheek refreshment
Smile lines
Fine lines and wrinkles (especially around the mouth)
Lip hydration and softening
Overall skin quality and texture
Plexr - smoother and tighter skin without surgery

BioGel for the Under-Eye Area

The under-eye area requires careful evaluation because the skin is thin and the surrounding anatomy is complex. During your consultation, your provider will assess the location and degree of hollowing, skin thickness and elasticity, existing puffiness or fluid retention, previous filler treatments, facial symmetry, and the relationship between the lower eyelid and cheek. BioGel may be discussed for selected patients, but it is not appropriate for every under-eye concern. Your provider will explain the available options, their limitations, and the potential risks associated with injections in this area.

Your BioGel Procedure

Before treatment

Your care begins with a consultation and facial assessment. Your provider will review:

  • Your medical and surgical history
  • Current medications and supplements
  • Allergies
  • Previous injectable treatments
  • History of bruising or bleeding
  • Existing skin or medical conditions
  • The areas you would like evaluated
  • Your aesthetic preferences and goals

You will also have an opportunity to discuss alternative treatments and ask questions about the procedure.

Preparing the BioGel
When treatment is appropriate, a small blood sample is collected and processed according to Mooi’s clinical procedure. The selected blood component is prepared into a gel-like injectable material. The exact process will be explained as part of your informed-consent discussion.

During Treatment

The treatment area is cleansed, and a topical or local numbing option may be used when appropriate.

Your provider administers the BioGel according to the individualized injection plan discussed with you before treatment. The length of the appointment depends on the number and location of the areas being addressed.

After Treatment

Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising or sensitivity may occur around the collection or injection sites. Individualized aftercare instructions will be provided. These may include temporary activity, skincare or medication considerations based on your procedure and medical history.

Cost of the treatment

Starting at $2,500.

Frequently asked questions

BioGel is commonly described as a natural bio-filler because it is prepared from a patient’s blood. However, “natural” does not mean risk-free. BioGel remains an injectable procedure requiring appropriate screening, treatment planning and informed consent.
BioGel is not an FDA-approved dermal filler. Dr. Botha will discuss its regulatory status, limitations, potential risks, and available FDA-approved alternatives before treatment.
BioGel may be discussed for selected under-eye concerns following an individualized assessment. The under-eye area is not appropriate for every patient or injectable procedure. Dr. Botha will evaluate your anatomy, previous treatment and available alternatives before making a recommendation.
BioGel should not be described as universally safer than an FDA-approved dermal filler. Using a patient-derived material may affect certain considerations, but the procedure still carries injection-related risks. Each option has its own risks, limitations and potential complications.

Temporary swelling, bruising, redness or tenderness may occur. The extent and duration vary.

Your provider will explain what to expect and provide aftercare instructions based on your procedure.

There is no standard number appropriate for every patient. Any additional procedure is recommended only after Dr. Botha evaluates the treatment area and your response.
Duration varies based on the individual patient, preparation method, treatment area and other factors. No specific duration can be guaranteed.
