Physician-Led Approach to Support Pain Management and Recovery

Neural Therapy Ocala Florida

Neural therapy is an injection-based complementary treatment that uses small amounts of a short-acting local anesthetic at carefully selected areas of the body.

At Mooi Medical Spa & Laser Center, Dr. Tracey Botha may incorporate neural therapy into an individualized care plan for patients experiencing persistent pain, nerve-related symptoms, discomfort associated with old injuries or scars, and other concerns where the nervous system may be contributing to ongoing symptoms.
Neural therapy is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. A medical consultation and examination are required to determine whether it may be appropriate for you.
What Is Neural Therapy?
Neural therapy developed in Europe from the therapeutic use of local anesthetics beyond their traditional role of temporarily numbing an area.
The treatment involves injecting a small amount of local anesthetic into specific areas selected by the physician. Depending on the patient and the clinical findings, these may include areas around nerves, painful or sensitive tissue, scars, trigger points, or other targeted locations.
The anesthetic itself is short-acting. Neural therapy is based on the concept that temporarily interrupting certain pain or nerve signals may influence how the nervous system responds after the medication’s immediate numbing effect has worn off.
Because persistent pain can involve more than the original tissue injury alone, Dr. Botha evaluates the broader clinical picture before determining whether neural therapy should be considered.
Why Can Pain Continue After an Injury Has Healed?
Pain normally serves an important protective purpose. After an injury, surgery, inflammation, or other physical stress, nerves transmit signals that help protect the affected area.
For some people, however, pain or sensitivity may continue even after the original injury has improved.
Persistent pain can involve changes in the way the peripheral and central nervous systems process signals. Previous injury, scar tissue, inflammation, metabolic health, muscle tension, movement patterns, and other factors may also influence a person’s symptoms.
This is one reason two patients with similar imaging or similar injuries can experience very different levels of discomfort.
Neural therapy is one of several supportive approaches Dr. Botha may consider after reviewing your history, symptoms, previous treatment, and current health.
What Happens During Neural Therapy?
Treatment begins with a consultation with Dr. Botha.
She will review your symptoms, medical and surgical history, previous injuries, scars, imaging when relevant, treatments you have already tried, medications, and overall health.
If neural therapy is appropriate, a small amount of local anesthetic is injected into the selected treatment area.
The exact location and number of injections vary according to the individual. Neural therapy may also be incorporated into a broader care plan rather than used as a stand-alone treatment.
Areas That May Be Evaluated
Patients seeking consultation for neural therapy may have symptoms involving areas such as:
These are examples of areas Dr. Botha may evaluate. They do not mean neural therapy is appropriate for every type or cause of pain in these locations.

Neural Therapy and Persistent Pain

Persistent pain is rarely identical from one patient to another.
One person may have symptoms associated with an old injury. Another may experience burning, shooting, hypersensitive, or nerve-like discomfort. Someone else may notice persistent sensitivity around a scar long after the original surgery has healed.
Rather than selecting treatment based only on the name of a diagnosis, Dr. Botha considers the patient’s history, examination findings, prior treatment, and the pattern of symptoms.
Neural therapy may be one of several options considered as part of that individualized approach.

What to Expect

Every patient begins with a medical consultation. Dr. Botha evaluates your history and determines whether neural therapy is appropriate and whether additional medical evaluation, imaging, testing, or referral may be needed before treatment.
There is no universal injection pattern or treatment schedule. The areas treated and the number of sessions recommended depend on your individual findings and response.
Your response is reassessed after treatment. Some patients may be advised to return for additional sessions, while others may require a different supportive approach. Neural therapy may also be combined with other aspects of an individualized care plan when medically appropriate.

Neural therapy is a complementary medical therapy and is not intended to replace appropriate medical or surgical evaluation, emergency care, or treatment recommended by your other healthcare professionals.
The use of local anesthetic medications for neural therapy may be considered an off-label use. An off-label use is one that has not been specifically approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for that indication. Off-label prescribing is permitted in medical practice when considered appropriate by a licensed healthcare professional.
Individual responses vary, and no particular result can be predicted or guaranteed. Treatment is provided only after consultation, medical evaluation, and informed consent with Dr. Tracey Botha.
